Project Descriptions:

Judith Escalona’s “Bx3M: A work in process”
Witness firsthand the ongoing editing of this New York City epic. The
director and invited guests (Director of Photography Ted Ciesielski
and Actor Jaime Sanchez for starters) go through a performative
process of editing. Visitors watch and interact with
them. Behind the scenes footage also on display.

Hector Canonge’s “IDOLatries/IDOLatrías””
An interactive new media work utilizing barcode and readers to bring
attention to yet another way women are objectified. Barcode takes us
one more step away from seeing these luscious Latinas on boxes,
cans, and jars as anything other than their use value. Consumer heaven
or hell, depending on which side of the supermarket aisle you’re on.

MediaNoche, Manhattan’s Uptown gallery devoted to new media, presents Voiceover, a site-specific public intervention by Nayda Collazo-Llorens.

A constant flow of text moving across the storefront windows of MediaNoche engages the public to explore aspects of memory, language and displacement. Viewable at night from the street, nearby buildings and passing trains on the overpass, Voiceover is a non-linear textual piece projected onto the windows of the gallery, located at the Northeast corner of Park Avenue and 102nd Street.

Patricia Villalobos Echeverria’s AGUASMALAS (BLACKWATERS) at MediaNoche

November 22 – December 14, 2008

pic_medium.jpg

Multichannel video projections onto parasitic, bomb-like sculptures activate MediaNoche’s architecture. Images of mass rallies and marching soldiers are juxtaposed to a man’s body, floating in dark, indeterminate waters. The sculptures act as bodies themselves, simultaneously inhabiting the physical space of the gallery and the projections of the sea, a dark field of liquid that alludes to contamination or oil. It should be noted that the English translation of Aguasmalas also references the private military company Blackwater, contracted by the US government to provide security services in Iraq.
