tragic comedy tracing the life of bodeguero Juan Maldonado and his
family as they face the travails of running a small grocery store on East
116th Street. Family tensions ebb and flow according to the situation at
hand. Quinn, Juan's son, dreams of success far from the daily grunt work
his father expects from him. Sophia, his daughter, feels caged in by her
parent's morality and fears. Those fears, unfortunately, get played out
in reality. Juan's dream of making enough to leave the business to his son
and retire to Puerto Rico with his wife is shattered by a robber's bullet.
