about us

Puerto Rico and the American Dream is the award-winning Web site on
the history, culture and politics of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican diaspora. Founded seven years ago by Judith Escalona and Stephanie Owens, this multimedia site continues to bring unique, original content online in Spanish and English. A film section, an online gallery, discussion boards, historical timelines and oral histories are featured along with announcements and current events postings.

CentroTalks is produced in cooperation with the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College/City University of New York, the largest Latino archive in the United States. CentroTalks presents a digest of the scholarly talks given at the Centro each academic year. Some of the most distinguished scholars in their fields present information that is of local, national and international significance.

Two years ago, PRdream launched MediaNoche, a new media project and digital gallery located in Spanish Harlem. MediaNoche offers residencies and exhibition space for artists working in new media.

The Digital Film Studio at MediaNoche is a space for independent filmmakers to converge. Works-in-progress screenings, screenplay readings and a variety of workshops are offered. Production equipment and offline digital post are also available.

The Handball Court Outdoor Summer Film Festival is an annual event, presenting world cinema on East 106th Street at sunset.

PRdream is the original curator of Nuyorican Cinema, the cinema of the Puerto Rican diaspora. A permanent online exhibition of these films can be seen here, along with critical essays about this little known part of American independent cinema.

We welcome comments from visitors and wish to open up a dialogue about Puerto Rico and its relationship to the United States in the Forum
discussion board.

We are a 501(c)3 and all donations for the web site and our programs are tax-deductible. Donations should be made payable to PR Project Inc.
